“Stunning,” Connor said as he walked around Elliot’s towering frame. “Simply marvelous.” He turned to me. “You do have an eye for the best human selection, Deacon.”

I smiled and bowed my head. “Thank you, Sir.” Maybe promote me then?

A few days ago, I’d sent word to him that I had another human recruit and for him to come to my home, because it would be too risky for me to bring Elliot to him, as the authorities were still looking for the escaped prisoner whose goons had left two guards brutally murdered. Ahhh yes, the public and press were enjoying the propaganda and spectacle of it all. It wasn’t too long ago when England had been ravaged by the plague. So many potential humans died from the disease and growing our pack was taking longer than we’d like. Never had I ever been so happy to be a wolf than I was during that dark time. It was another selling point, you could say, I used to recruit the few humans I could. But now, things were starting to become normal again and if we were going to attack the dragons, we needed to be prepared. We had nearly four thousand wolves. It would have to be enough.

“Has my Capo explained to you what would be expected of you if you were to join my pack?” Connor asked Elliot.

“Yes, Sir,” Elliot said.

The Alpha wasn’t alone in his inspection of Elliot. Both Royce and Elias had joined Connor in my home. Elias’ presence annoyed me and the fact that he had the rank I felt I’d earned long ago only set to enrage me more. My only solace was that he was not in charge of my district, Royce was. Our friendship never recovered, even after the death of Angus, unfortunately. Partly because Elias felt he was above being on equal terms with wolves under his rank. The two Beta Capos stood silently as they regarded Elliot with their own scrutiny. Elliot was standing in the middle of my living room, stark naked, as Connor wanted to see every inch of him as he’d once did me when I had been but a child.

“I will give you the bite, a rare gift given only to those who are worthy. If you survive, you will become wolf, pack, brother. Do you understand?” Connor asked him.

Elliot nodded. “Yes, Sir.”

By now, Elliot did have clothes, not a lot, more were being made, but for now, two outfits that fit his huge body. My seamstress was hard at work making more. Speaking of her, Sanese, she was one of the few female wolves that could seduce my nether region. Looking at her bosom enticed me in a way only my wife did. Perhaps, it was time to claim another bride for myself. She would be over in a few more days with more clothes for Elliot. Let us hope he survived the upcoming battle, so her efforts weren’t put to waste.

“Will you give him the bite now, father?” Royce asked.
